The incredibly tasteful gin is made on Nikka's famous whiskey distillery, Miyagikyo. At first glance, one could be carried out to believe that the gin contains coffee, but that is not the case. The name “Coffey” comes from a special type of distillery, a coffey still, which the spirits are made.
Nikka Coffey Gin is a rich and soft Japanese gin whose texture is rather silky and refined. It is made from a corn distillate and a malted barley distillate produced at the Miyagikyo distillery.
Relentlessly passionate about quality, Taketsuru used what he learned in Scotland to create the Japanese style of whisky, unique to the country. After a 10-year contract with Kotobukiya, Taketsuru left to build the Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido, where Nikka was born.
The bright and zesty aroma originating from four kinds of Japanese citruses, Yuzu, Kabosu, Amanatsu and Shequasar, compliments the traditional gin botanicals of juniper berries, angelica, coriander seeds, lemon and orange peels.
